Epigenetic Control of Carotenogenesis During Plant Development

نویسندگان

چکیده

Carotenoids are secondary metabolites synthesized in plastids that function photosynthesis, photoprotection, growth and development of plants. contribute to the yellowish, orange pinkish-red hues leaves, flowers fruits, as well various aromas. They provide substrates for biosynthesis phytohormones cleavable into smaller apocarotenoids retrograde signals and/or mediate intracellular communication regulate gene transcription protein translation. Carotenoid regulation tightly coordinated with tissue-specific plastid differentiation, seedling morphogenesis, fruit development, prevailing environmental conditions such light, temperature mycorrhizal interactions. In last decade, epigenetic processes have been linked carotenoid biosynthesis, accumulation degradation during plant development. Next-generation sequencing approaches shed new light on key rate-limiting steps pathways targeted by modifications synchronize morphogenesis. We discuss how histone (methylation acetylation), DNA methylation demethylation, small RNA silencing can modulate apocarotenoid generation throughout plants’ life cycle: from seed germination This review highlights biogenesis expression sync chromatin alterations skotomorphogenesis photo-morphogenesis. a perspective based upon emerging evidence supports likely role carotenoids contributing programming maintenance plants' landscape.

Epigenetic control of plant development: new layers of complexity.

Important aspects of plant development are under epigenetic control, that is, under the control of heritable changes in gene expression that are not associated with alterations in DNA sequence. It is becoming clear that RNA molecules play a key role in epigenetic gene regulation by providing sequence specificity for the targeting of developmentally important genes. RNA-based control of gene exp...

Epigenetic control of plant immunity.

In eukaryotic genomes, gene expression and DNA recombination are affected by structural chromatin traits. Chromatin structure is shaped by the activity of enzymes that either introduce covalent modifications in DNA and histone proteins or use energy from ATP to disrupt histone-DNA interactions. The genomic 'marks' that are generated by covalent modifications of histones and DNA, or by the depos...

Carotenogenesis during tuber development and storage in potato.

Germplasm of Solanum tuberosum and Solanum phureja exhibit a wide (over 20-fold) variation in tuber carotenoid content. The levels of carotenoids during tuber development and storage were compared in a high carotenoid-accumulating S. phureja accession (DB375\1) with two S. tuberosum cultivars (Pentland Javelin and Desiree) that accumulate lower levels of tuber carotenoid. On a dry weight basis,...

Epigenetic Control of Circadian Clock Operation during Development

The molecular players of circadian clock oscillation have been identified and extensively characterized. The epigenetic mechanisms behind the circadian gene expression control has also been recently studied, although there are still details to be illucidated. In this review, we briefly summarize the current understanding of the mammalian clock. We also provide evidence for the lack of circadian...

Decoding the Epigenetic Language of Plant Development

Epigenetics refers to the study of heritable changes in gene expression or cellular phenotype without changes in DNA sequence. Epigenetic regulation of gene expression is accomplished by DNA methylation, histone modifications, histone variants, chromatin remodeling, and may involve small RNAs. DNA methylation at cytosine is carried out by enzymes called DNA Methyltransferases and is involved in...
